Nam Joo Hyuk Talks About The Pressure Of Making His Film Debut With “Ansi Fortress”
Nam Joo Hyuk takes on his first film with Ansi Fortress – and he admits that the pressure of debuting on the big screen is real.
After making us fall in love with his sweet, boyfriend material roles in Cheese in the Trap, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, and Bride of Habaek, Nam Joo Hyuk takes on the challenge of portraying a heavier role this time with his big screen debut for film Ansi Fortress.

Joo Hyuk plays the role of Sa Mool, a soldier who receives secret orders from Yeongeonsa and enters the Ansi Fortress. He will be sharing the screen with Jo In Sung, Park Sung Woong, Bae Sung Woo, Um Tae Goo, and Seolhyun – all of whom are huge names in the acting industry.
“At first, I felt very uncomfortable while shooting the movie. I had a hard time because I did not seem to fit in well,” the 24-year-old actor said.
“In fact, I was worried about my acting ability when I was cast in Ansi Fortress,” Joo Hyuk confessed, revealing that he felt intimidated by both the project and the actors he would be working along with.
“I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel any pressure. Frankly, there was too much pressure. I had to work harder on some things because of the pressure,” he added.
Other than the cutesy and teeny-bopper roles he had played before, Joo Hyuk is also known for starting out in the industry as a model. His good looks has made him stand out in the entertainment industry a lot, and even his co-star Jo In Sung bestows him the “flower boy” title.
However, Joo Hyuk revealed that he does not think much about being labeled as a model-actor and the kinds of expectations and implications they are entailing.
“I do not want to think deeply about the label of the model-actor personally,” he shared.

On the other hand, he shared how Jo In Sung helped him feel more at ease on set.
“Jo In Sung has been a big help to me. As a senior, he helped me so much and I personally look up to him. Because of his older brother-like advice, I was able to film the movie more easily and I was able to put off the tension and pressure,” he said.
The Battle of Ansi Fortress is known as the greatest and most dramatic victory in East Asia’s war history. It is known for employing great strategy and tactics around 1,400 years ago and lasted for 88 days. The making of Ansi Fortress will revolve around how Goguryeo managed to emerge victorious despite of a David-and-Goliath-like situation.
Ansi Fortress is currently receiving the Chuseok spotlight as the first mega-action blockbuster movie to cover the Goguryeo era. The film, directed by Kim Kwang Sik, is set to be released by Next Entertainment World on September 19.
