[FAN MEETING RECAP] Running Man’s Fun-filled “RUN 2 U” Show In Manila

By  |

The cast members of the longest-running South Korean variety show Running Man fulfilled their promise to their Filipino fans as they made their return to the Philippines after one year.

Running Man’s well-loved stars Ji Suk Jin, Yoo Jae Suk, Kim Jong Kook, HaHa, Song Ji Hyo, and Yang Se Chan graced the Mall of Asia Arena on June 6, 2024, for their RUN 2 U fan meeting.

Notably, the much-anticipated fan meeting was held in celebration of the show’s monumental achievement—reaching its 700th episode milestone. It also marked their second show in Manila, following their first visit through Running Man: A Decade Of Laughter In Manila last April 2023.

Special Guests

Making RUN 2 U more special for Filipino fans, the cast members of Running Man Philippines delighted the crowd as the opening act for the show.

Mikael Daez, Kokoy Do Santos, Angel Guardian, Glaiza De Castro, Buboy Villar, Lexi Gonzales, and Miguel Tanfelix raised the energy at the venue with their special performances.

Kicking off the party

Running Man Korea then took the baton to officially start the fan meeting. The six members appeared on stage one by one as they serenade the audience with BTS’ masterpiece track “Spring Day.”

Grateful for the warm welcome received from the enthusiastic PH runners present at the arena, the members greeted everyone and showered them with the Filipino words “Salamat po (Thank you)” and “Mahal Kita (I love you).”

As they briefly sat down for an interview with the hosts Ryan Bang and Kring Kim, the Running Man cast members shared how much they miss the country. Ji Suk Jin named lechon and sisig his favorite Filipino dishes, while Kim Jong Kook picked the local beers as the drinks he would like to try again.

South Korea’s Nation’s MC Yoo Jae Suk heightened the fans’ anticipation about what’s in store for the night saying, “We prepare everything so you just have to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.”

Interacting with fans

For the next segment, the Running Man cast played a few games with the help of fans. The first game was “What is Next?” where they guessed the next words that they had said in previous episodes of the program. The second and third games were “All About K-pop.” In the second game, they guessed the three songs being played simultaneously, while in the third game, they guessed the songs by watching a dancing staff member.

Lucky PH Runners were also given a chance to meet their favorite Running Man stars up close. They received gifts from the members and played with them as well during the “COSPLAY” game, where they needed to show similar poses to win. Showing great teamwork, Yoo Jae Suk and his Filipina teammate were hailed as the winners.

Shining solo stages

Quickly after the games, the cast members delighted fans with their solo performances. Jihyo performed first as she covered BIBI’s “Bam Yang Gang.” Ji Suk Jin appeared next as he sang John Legend’s “All of Me.”

Much to the audience’s surprise, Yang Se Chan transformed as British vocalist Freddie Mercury to give a captivating performance of the Queens’ “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Together with his new duo SRG, HaHa hyped up the crowd with “Ice Bottle.”

Melting hearts with his sweet voice, Kim Jong Kook then took the spotlight to sing his most loved tracks “한 남자 (One Man)” and “Spring has come.” Finally, as the final solo performer, Yoo Jae Suk graced the center stage as Yoo San Seul (his stage name as a Trot singer) to perform “Redevelopment of Love.”

Special collaboration and Encore performances

Leveling up the excitement at the arena, the Running Man members also gifted fans with special collaboration and encore performances. To name some of the most notable collaborations during the show, HaHa teamed up with Yang Se Chan to give energetic performances of “KALLA” and “DANG DIGGI BANG” while Kim Jong Kook and Song Ji Hyo, also fondly called “SpartAce” displayed chemistry as they sang The Jadu’s “대화가 필요해(We Need To Talk).”

In addition, the six members came closer to fans as they delivered an encore to remember. They performed their song “I Like It,” DAY6’s “Time of Our Life,” Kim Jong Kook’s “Loveable,” and RGP’s “Busan Vacance.”

Before they capped off the show, the members shared their closing messages with PH Runners. Yoo Jae Suk lauded the fans’ overwhelming support, saying, “We can only look forward to the 15th anniversary because of all your love for us.” Ji Suk Jin also promised to continue showing a more improved version of themselves. “We always tell ourselves, who are we to deserve this love? We promise to be better every day. Thank you so much!”

“I just want to say thank you for all your love. We’ll be more diligent in running,” said Song Ji Hyo. Meanwhile, Kim Jong Kook shared, “We’ll do our best to give back all our love to you.”

The youngest of the team, Yang Se Chan, also praised the audience’s passionate energy and hopes to have a chance to meet everyone again. “You are the reason why we have been receiving a lot of love worldwide. Through your support, Running Man PH was born. I’ll be appearing there as a guest tomorrow (the episode aired last Sunday),” said HaHa.

From the entertaining and chaotic banters of the cast, the captivating solo, collaboration, and group performances, the lovely interaction with the audience, and the admirable fan service provided by the members — RUN 2 U in Manila filled us up with laughter and joy. And as we continue to look forward to a new episode each week, let’s bring with us the fun memories we’ve shared during the fan meeting.
