BTS writes another historic achievement for K-Pop with new album Love Yourself: Tear!
South Korean boy group BTS creates history with its third Korean studio album Love Yourself: Tear on America’s Billboard.
The newest release of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook topped Billboard 200 Album Charts, making it the boy group’s first number one on the chart and the first K-Pop album to achieve such feat.
Love Yourself: Tear, which came out on May 18, sold 135,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending May 24.
According to Billboard, of the total number of sales, traditional album sales amounted to 100,000, 26,000 in streaming equivalent albums, and 9,000 track equivalent albums.
BTS’ third Korean studio album is also the second K-Pop album to be part of the chart’s top ten, following the group’s 2017 hit Love Yourself: Her which debuted and peaked at the seventh spot.
Moreover, BTS recorded the highest first week sales for a K-Pop album in the US, beating the previous record set by Love Yourself: Her.
Love Yourself: Tear is also the first primarily foreign-language album to reach the top spot of Billboard 200 Album Charts in 12 years since Il Divo’s Ancora.
Aside from Billboard, BTS also created history on Hanteo Charts by raking in more than one million sales on its first week — the first in Hanteo’s 25-year history.
This also makes the boy group a double-million seller.
