LUCY Overcomes The Taboo With “Boogie Man”

Band Lucy Embarks on an Intense Transformation in latest single album.

On December 5th at 6 PM KST, LUCY unveiled their sixth single album, Boogie Man, along with the title track of the same name.

“Boogie Man” is a synth-pop genre song that captures a mysterious atmosphere rather than the refreshing energy LUCY has shown in the past. Using the formless monster living inside a wardrobe, “Boogie Man” sings about ‘the other desires within me called forth by myself.’

Previously singing about the growth of youth, love, and hope through tracks like “Gaehwa,” “Hero,” “Azirang,” “Nori,” “Jogging,” “No, But Seriously,” and “Are You By Any Chance,” LUCY completely transforms with “Boogie Man,” depicting the psychological changes of a person who has always lived an oppressed and controlled life.

The band’s sharper yet dynamic sound from the four members effectively conveys the song’s sharpness and intensity.

Especially with “Boogie Man,” LUCY seems to step into the world of ‘negatives,’ expressing negative emotions like sadness, despair, hatred, and anger in synth-pop, which previously seemed forbidden to the band LUCY. While LUCY’s music world has been filled with bright and fresh youthful energy, by meeting ‘Boogie Man’ after opening the wardrobe, LUCY faces heavily suppressed negative emotions.

From hoping for a radiant spring even in the cold winter by saying, ‘It’s okay, someday, someday, it will bloom in blue’ to discarding light and fleeing into darkness in “Boogie Man,” LUCY’s story of avoidance, saying, ‘I’d rather escape with warm ghost ships swarming with ghosts,’ ‘I’d rather escape with you to the other side,’ is novel and refreshing. Sometimes loosely and sometimes wildly, just like throwing open a wardrobe door, LUCY has cracked open an eggshell and stepped into a new line.”
