On May 3, Starship Entertainment announced through MONSTA X’s official social media accounts the status of Shownu’s health and the plans for his participation in future activities.

Earlier, Shownu was diagnosed with “Left Retinal Detachment (Amotio Retinae)” in July 2020. Due to this, he had to undergo emergency surgery and has been receiving regular eye checkups to prevent a recurrence as the medical condition is difficult to completely cure.

According to MONSTA X’s agency, Shownu felt discomfort in his eyes due to constant exposure to strong lighting as he was busy preparing for the group’s upcoming album. He immediately went for an examination and received appropriate medical treatment for his serious condition. Resulting discomfort caused by sub-retinal fluid and proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) as a complication of the retinal detachment, Shownu was advised to have a proper rest for a considerable time to avoid a relapse and further deterioration.
