Congratulations, NewJeans!

Sought-after K-pop girl group NewJeans received a commendation from the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism at the recent 2023 Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards held at the Haeoreum Theater of the National Theater in Seoul on October 21.

NewJeans was unable to attend the awards ceremony physically due to her overseas schedule, but they expressed their gratitude for the recognition through her agency ADOR.

“It is an honor to receive the Popular Culture and Arts Award, a commendation from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. We are sincerely grateful to the people who love pop culture and Bunnies (official fan club name). We think this award was given to us as a sign that we should work harder in the future, and we will continue to be NewJeans who contribute to the development of pop culture,” the group said.

A new K-pop sensation

NewJeans, who caused a sensation upon their debut in July of last year, has grown into a global trending artist with successive successes such as their single album OMG in January of this year and their 2nd mini album Get Up in July of this year. With their single album OMG,  they entered the world’s two largest pop charts, the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK’s Official Singles Chart Top 100, within half a year of their debut. Moreover, the b-side song “Ditto” was the longest-running chart of all time on Melon, Korea’s major music site. They showed off their powerful music power by setting a new record (99 days) for first place.

In particular, they placed their 2nd mini album Get Up at number 1 on Billboard 200 and placed all three album title songs “Super Shy,” “ETA,” and “Cool With You” on the Hot 100 chart.

Thanks to this global popularity, NewJeans has proven their influence and status around the world by performing on stages at large overseas music festivals such as Lollapalooza Chicago in the U.S. and Summer Sonic in Japan and being selected as the cover star of various global magazines.
