With the highly-anticipated release of Map of the Soul: Persona on April 12, the group completely owned numerous music charts and shattered records left and right within 24 hours.

Sweeping iTunes’ charts

As expected, the group found home on iTunes’ Top Album charts in the United States as the mini-album took over the number one spot upon its release. All of its seven tracks also reigned over the U.S. iTunes Top Songs chart, with the lead track “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey nabbing the top spot.

“Make It Right”, “Mikrokosmos”, “HOME”, “Intro: Persona”, “Dionysus”, and “Jamais Vu” filled the chart’s Top 10 as well, showing just how much fans loved the astounding B-side tracks from the mini-album.

Topping domestic charts – and breaking Melon while they’re at it

Korean music charts also reflected the same situation, where the songs occupied the top spots of the six major sites Soribada, Genie, Naver, Bugs, Mnet, and Flo with Map of the Soul: Persona. In fact, fans even broke the largest domestic music site Melon as users were reportedly unable to access its mobile site upon the album’s release.

“Due to the influx of traffic, it is not connecting on mobile. We are currently identifying the cause of the error and restoring,” an official from Melon stated. By 8 PM KST, the site was finally restored, which showed BTS’ “Boy With Luv” debuting at number one.

Breaking their own Hanteo record

The group already broke their first-week sales record in Hanteo within a span of a day, recording over 1.38 million sales on the chart by a mere duration of three hours after its release at 6 PM KST. The mini-album continued to rise significantly afterward – however, it had already broken the record previously set by Love Yourself: Tear in 2018 with 1,0003,527 units on its first day.

Shattering pre-order record by millions

As the mini-album’s pre-order period ended on April 11, it was revealed that BTS had tallied a total of 3,021,822 stock pre-orders for Map of the Soul: Persona! This total amount is double of their previous record with Love Yourself: Answer which recorded a total of 1,511,910 in 2018. It also marks the first time the group had surpassed three million pre-orders for any release.

Dominating YouTube

The total views for their “Boy With Luv” music video with Halsey continues to rise since it was released simultaneously with the album. As fans await its official 24-hour record, the music video already accumulates over 70 million views as of writing.

This makes “Boy With Luv” the fastest music video from a Korean group to surpass the amount – a record previously taken by BLACKPINK with “Kill This Love” which reached the milestone within one day, 13 hours and 30 minutes. However, before that, BTS held the record with “IDOL” which hit 70 million views two days and two hours after its release.
