The boy group successfully added another trophy in their bag as Guinness World Records themselves officially note them as the proud record-breakers for the top selling album in the entirety of South Korea’s music history!

Following its release on April 12 this year, Map of the Soul: Persona has been able to sell 3,399,302 copies domestically as of May. This breaks the previous record held by Kim Gun Mo’s album Mis-Encounter from way back in 1995 which sold 3.3 million copies in Korea.

On May 9, the Gaon Chart also announced that Map of the Soul: Persona is officially South Korea’s best-selling album of all time, having sold 3,229,032 units in less than a month.

The album also tallied 3,021,822 pre-orders, and over 1.38 million units sold on its first week. This is the fifth BTS album to be included in South Korea’s list of best-selling albums of all time, alongside the Love Yourself series in 2017-2018, and the Wings album in 2016.

Marking their latest album, Map of the Soul: Persona contains the title track “Boy with Luv”, a collaboration with singer Halsey and holds three records of its own.

Proving the group’s immense popularity, the music video for “Boy With Luv” debuted with 74.6 million views in the first 24 hours. This impressive number reflected in their achievement of the Guinness World Records title for most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours.

Currently, Map of the Soul: Persona ranks on the 46th spot for this week’s Billboard 200, marking its tenth week of staying strong in the chart.
