5 Korean Dramas When Time Travel Becomes Reality
Apart from usual genres, South Korean dramas are gaining popularity with storylines on time travel. These shows are commonly combined with two other popular genres; historical and romance, that might aim to captivate older audiences and the younger groups who are into modern love. Most of these dramas feature characters who journeyed through time on the quest for love.
Here, we come up with a list of 5 + 1 time travel themed Korean dramas, which we think they are really good and worth every second of your time to watch. And no, you don’t need to time travel to watch these shows.

A remake off Japanese drama ‘Operation Love’ (Proposal Daisakusen), here comes the Korean version with a slightly different remaked title, called ‘Operation Proposal’.
Kang Baek-ho (Yoo Seung-ho) and Ham Yi-seul (Park Eun-bin) have been the closest friends for more than 20 years since childhood. Because of his pride, Baek-ho fails to confess his love to Yi-seul, only to witness her eventual marriage with their high school baseball coach, Kwon Jin-won. On the wedding night, after chancing upon Yi-seul’s undelivered love letter to him during high school, he felt regretful and stumbled into deep sorrows alone, crying his heart out. At that moment, a miracle happened. A mysterious man, who proclaimed himself as the Time Conductor, revealed that he can bring Baek-ho back to the past and change the destiny to what he wants – to be together with Yi-seul. With a small bottle of magical potion, he was instantly brought back to the past. Did he manage to change the past? And did it become better or worse? Will the death be the end of time travelling?

1. Dr. Jin

A gifted but arrogant doctor, Dr Jin (Song Seung Hun), is mysteriously transported back in time one day after he removed a fetus shaped tumour inside a patient’s brain. Before his time slip, he had a brief argument with his girlfriend Yoo Mi Na (Park Min Young), who later got into a car accident and was on the brink of death. His love story continues into Joseon Period when he met the historical version of his girlfriend. As this is a medical drama, do be aware that there are some graphical surgery scenes.

2. Queen In Hyun’s Man

This light-hearted romantic period drama begins with a scholar named Kim Boong Do (Ji Hyun-woo) from 1694, who supported the deposed Queen In Hyun during the period. During the political turmoil at one time, when he was nearly killed in combat, he was magically transported to 2012 by a mystical blessed talisman. By fate in the present Seoul, he meets Choi Hee Jin (Yoo In Na), who is an actress that finally makes her career break with an acting role as Queen In Hyun in a drama. A recommended interesting show between a noble man from the Joseon dynasty and a professional woman from the modern era.

3. Faith

A modern-day plastic surgeon professional lady, Dr Yoo Eun Soo (Kim Hee Sun), is kidnapped by warrior Choi Young (Lee Min Ho) who came from 700 years in the past, in the desperate bid to save princess Nogoog (Park Se Young) using advanced healing techniques, and whose life determined the fate of Goryeo. Back in time, she then fell in love with him and was embroiled in the challenging political situation.

4. Rooftop Prince

While investigating the sudden death of the Crown Princess, Crown Prince Lee Kak (Park Yoo Chun) and his men were chased to the edge of a cliff by a group of assassins. The group then jump off and was then mysteriously transported to the 21st century in Seoul. At the present day, Lee Kak meets Joo Se Na (Jeong Yu Mi), who bears resemblance of his deceased princess and he soon believes that she holds the keys to unlock the mystery of the death and the reason why he mysteriously travelled 300 years from the past. Things get complicated when Park Ha (Han Ji Min), whom has helped Lee Kak and his group when they first arrived to the present, falls in love with him.

5. Nine: Nine Times Time Travel

Unlike the rest, this story transcends time travel in modern era, going back only 20 years in time. Anchorman Park Sun Woo is in Nepal to identify his older brother’s body and belongings after he was found frozen in the mountains. There, he meets the news reporter Joo Min Young (Jo Yoon Hee) who is in love with him, and has recently confessed her feelings to him. Sun Woo blames himself for his brother’s death. That night, from his brother’s belongings, he found some mysterious incense sticks. As he couldn’t sleep, he lighted up one stick and something unbelievable happened. When he realizes the use of the incense sticks, he decides to play God by saving his own life (twice) and .. Go and watch to find out. This is by far one of the most realistically thought-provoking time travel dramas as it invokes multiple time travel trips, each with immediate present consequences from the past actions and concurrently weaving events from two timelines. Be prepared to keep your eyes glued to the TV.
